Auto Selection of Background and Overlay Images
The orientation of the first photo in the layout can be used to automatically select a different background or overlay image. This is useful when shooting tethered and needing Hotfolder Prints to automatically apply a background to match the camera orientation, whether in portrait or landscape mode.
To use this option, append the orientation angle to the name of the background.jpg and overlay.png files. For example:
- background_90.jpg and background_270.jpg for portrait orientations.
- background_0.jpg for landscape orientation.
Example
Hotfolder Prints is monitoring the download folder when shooting tethered with a DSLR camera. The image asset folder contains the following files:
- background.jpg
- background_90.jpg
- background_270.jpg
- overlay.png
- overlay_90.png
- overlay_270.png
Scenario 1:
A photo is taken with the camera in normal landscape orientation.
- Hotfolder looks for background_0.jpg first, can’t find it, and uses background.jpg instead.
- Similarly, it looks for overlay_0.png, can’t find it, and uses overlay.png.
Scenario 2:
A photo is taken with the camera rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise (portrait orientation).
- Hotfolder looks for background_270.jpg, finds it, and uses it for the background.
- Similarly, it looks for overlay_270.png and uses it for the overlay.
Scenario 3:
A photo is taken with the camera rotated 90 degrees clockwise (portrait orientation the other way).
- Hotfolder looks for background_90.jpg, finds it, and uses it for the background.
- Similarly, it looks for overlay_90.png and uses it for the overlay.
