Video Booth Shooting

A video booth captures a short video clip instead of still photos. Video booth mode is available with all recent Canon cameras.

 

Enabling video booth mode

Select File > Video booth settings… and enable Enable video in photo booth mode.

 

Switch between photo and video booth modes in full screen using Ctrl+V (video) and Ctrl+P (photo), or via touchscreen actions.

 

Key settings

Startup in video booth mode Starts in video mode instead of photo mode when entering full screen
Hide live view during countdown and capture Shows live view only on the ready screen
Display playback screen after capturing Lets users review and accept or reject the clip
Start playback automatically Plays the clip immediately on the playback screen
Playback screen timeout Time before the clip is automatically accepted
Duration of captured video clip Length of each clip in seconds (up to 1200 sec)
Countdown before capturing video Countdown length before capture starts

Video post-processing

Click Video postprocessing… to configure processing applied after capture.

 

Options include:

  • Crop — crop to square or a custom aspect ratio
  • Video height — resize while maintaining aspect ratio
  • Mirror — flip horizontally (useful for glass-writing booths)
  • Boomerang — play forward then backward
  • Loops — number of times to repeat the boomerang cycle
  • Playback speed — slow or fast motion (e.g. 0.5 for half speed from a 60fps capture)
  • Custom edit list — define speed ramps, jump cuts, forward and backward clips

 

Custom edit list

Each entry defines a clip with:

  • Start time and End time — segment from the original video. If start > end, the clip plays backward.
  • Start speed and End speed — playback speed at the start and end of the clip (smooth speed ramp if different).

 

 

Overlays, intro, and outro

  • Static overlay — place video_overlay.png in the photo booth images folder (PNG with alpha channel)
  • Animated overlay — place video_overlay.mov (Apple ProRes4444 with alpha)
  • Intro video — place video_intro.mp4 to prepend to the processed video
  • Outro video — place video_outro.mp4 to append to the processed video
  • Soundtrack — place video_soundtrack.mp3 to replace captured audio

 

Slow motion video

Select 120fps video on supported cameras (EOS R5, R6, M50, M6 Mark II, M200, G5X Mark II, G7 Mark III) for smooth 4x slow motion. Must be configured on the camera itself via the camera menus before connecting via USB — Canon does not allow remote selection of this setting.

 

Green screen in video mode

Enable Enable green screening of live view images in Video Booth Settings to apply green screen to the live view display. Note: green screening is not applied to the downloaded video file — use third-party software for that.

 

Animated GIF from video mode

Video mode can also capture a series of still frames to create an animated GIF. See Animated GIFs for details.
