Part 1 — Setting Up the Booth

1. What hardware does Breeze recommend for a photo booth?

Camera: The Canon EOS R100 is recommended as a strong all-round choice, offering excellent image quality, fast Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus for stills and video live view, and a compact RF-mount mirrorless design.

Webcam booths: Any Windows-compatible USB webcam can be used, including built-in cameras on devices such as the Surface Pro. Logitech external webcams are recommended.

Printer: The DNP DS620 and DNP RX1 dye-sublimation printers are popular choices. The DS620 is very fast and supports formats from 2×6 strips up to 6×8 prints. The RX1 is compact, cost-effective and well suited to unattended or high-volume events.

PC: Windows 10 or 11 is required. Minimum specification is Intel i3, 4GB RAM and 256GB drive. Intel i7, 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD is recommended.

Touchscreen: Elo Touch Solutions commercial-grade touchscreen displays are recommended for touch booths.

2. What is the fastest way to get a new photo booth event running?

Use the Photobooth Setup Wizard from the File menu or the shortcut button on the main window.

The wizard walks through:

Number of photos
Print layout
Printer and page settings

It automatically generates the required screen image files, including ready, countdown, processing and sharing screens, plus a matching print layout. You can fine-tune the event afterwards in Photo Booth Settings and the Print Layout Editor.

3. How do I open Photo Booth Settings, and what does it control?

Open Photo Booth Settings from File > Photobooth Settings… or by clicking the Advanced Settings shortcut button.

This dialog controls:

4. What is the difference between Simple and Bank 1/Bank 2 camera settings?

Simple mode uses the camera’s current shutter speed, aperture, ISO and white balance settings. It is best for photo-only booths and automatically sets 1/125 sec when taking photos.

Bank 1 and Bank 2 provide independent configurable settings for live view, photo capture and video capture. These are required when the booth offers both photo and video modes, or needs precise manual exposure control.

Only the mode is saved in profiles, not the individual exposure values. This allows exposure to be adjusted on-site without changing the saved profile.

5. What camera settings are recommended when using external flash?

Exposure mode: M/manual
Shutter speed: 1/125 sec
Canon EOS M50 shutter speed: 1/100 sec
Aperture: f/8
ISO: 400
White balance: Flash

On the Canon EOS M50, do not select a shutter speed faster than 1/100 sec when triggering flash via the hotshoe, as a firmware issue can make flash triggering unreliable above that speed.

Basic Rebel-series cameras require External flash mode to be enabled in Photobooth Settings. Mid-range, high-end and mirrorless cameras generally do not need it if live view exposure simulation is disabled.

6. How do I set up the printer and print layout for the first time?

Open the Print Layout Editor using the Print Layout shortcut button, or from File > Photobooth Settings > Edit layout….

Click Printer Setup… to choose:

For borderless 4×6 printing, click Center page after selecting the printer and resolution. Alternatively, click Test Print, print a calibration page, measure the margins and enter the top, bottom, left and right margins manually.

Use Preset layouts… to select a common arrangement, or build a custom layout by dragging photo slots to move, resize and rotate them.

7. What is a photo booth profile?

A profile is a saved Photobooth Settings XML file assigned to a keyboard shortcut.

Profiles are configured using the Profiles… button in Photobooth Settings. Up to 18 profiles can be configured using shortcuts:

Shift+Ctrl+1 through Shift+Ctrl+9
Shift+Ctrl+F1 through Shift+Ctrl+F9

Profiles allow you to instantly switch between event setups, such as a 4-strip layout and a 2×2 grid. You can also set a default profile that loads at startup and after each shooting sequence, or configure random profile selection.

8. How can I make photo booth settings portable between PCs?

Edit the <photoboothImageDir> tag in the saved settings XML file.

Use documents\YourFolder to work across different user accounts, or use a single dot . to make the path relative to the settings file’s own folder.

This allows the event folder to be copied to another location and still load correctly.

Saving the settings again using the Save… button reverts the value back to an absolute path, so it must be edited again if portability is required.

For multi-profile event packages, an install_me.xml file can be created in the root event folder and dragged onto Remote Pro to install all profile definitions, event information, shortcut buttons and folder paths in one step.

Part 2 — Photo Booth Sequence & Screen Assets

9. How do you enter full screen photo booth mode?

Press Ctrl+F4 to enter full screen photo booth mode.

The ready.jpg screen is shown whenever Remote Pro is ready to take the next set of photos.

An optional ready_overlay.png can be layered over the ready screen and live view. It must be the same size as ready.jpg and use fully opaque or fully transparent areas. Semi-transparency via alpha channel is not supported. The overlay is automatically hidden when the countdown starts.

10. What screen files control the shooting sequence?

All screens are JPEG files, or PNG files for overlays, stored in the photo booth images folder.

Key files include:

ready.jpg — waiting for next sequence
1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc. — countdown screens
taking.jpg — shown shortly before capture
release.jpg — optional screen shown as the photo is taken
preview.jpg — optional background behind post-shot preview
processing.jpg — shown while formatting or printing
confirm_printing.jpg — print confirmation screen
printing_confirmed.jpg — print confirmed screen
share.jpg — sharing options screen

A typical 4-photo sequence is:

ready.jpg → 1.jpg → taking.jpg → release.jpg repeated for each shot → processing.jpg → confirm_printing.jpg → share.jpg → printing_confirmed.jpg.

Not every screen file is required. If a feature is not enabled, its screens are not needed. The Setup Wizard generates a complete starter set automatically.

11. Can screens change depending on shot number, colour mode or copy count?

Yes. A different taking.jpg, release.jpg or preview.jpg can be shown per shot by appending the shot number, for example taking1.jpg or taking2.jpg.

Screens can also vary by colour mode and print-copy count using the pattern:

<screen>_<mode><copies>.jpg

Modes include:

b — black and white
c — colour
t — monochrome toned
f to k — filters 1 to 6

For example, for ready.jpg in black and white with 2 copies selected, Remote Pro checks:

ready_b2.jpg → ready_b.jpg → ready_2.jpg → ready.jpg.

12. Can animated GIFs, movie clips or audio replace static screen images?

Yes. Place an animated GIF with the same base name as a screen, such as ready.gif, in the photo booth images folder.

Add _loop for continuous playback, for example ready_loop.gif.

GIFs can also be sized or positioned with filename tokens, such as:

ready_{w50%}_loop.gif — 50% screen width
ready_l200t100_loop.gif — positioned 200px from left and 100px from top

MP4 and MOV files work in the same way, for example ready.mp4. Movies cannot overlap live view. If live view is active, the movie displays below it.

When a GIF or movie replaces a countdown screen, such as 1.gif or 1.mp4, it plays once and the photo is taken when it finishes. The delay before the photo must be set to 2 seconds or more for it to display correctly.

For audio, a WAV file with the same base name, such as ready.wav, plays whenever that screen appears. This is not needed if the movie file already includes audio.

13. What are survey screens?

Survey screens appear at the start of the shooting sequence, before photos are taken.

They can collect information such as:

Name
Email address
Consent checkboxes
Age verification
Custom multiple-choice selections

Enable them by turning on User survey screens in Touchscreen Settings and creating survey definition XML files such as survey1_keyboard.xml and survey2_keyboard.xml in the photo booth images folder.

Responses are saved to the XML photo booth summary file and can be referenced in print captions or folder paths using tokens such as {survey1_text_name}.

14. How do I enforce a minimum age at the booth?

Set a survey text-entry field input ID to age18 to require date-of-birth entry in YYYYMMDD format.

Use ageinyears18 to accept a plain age number instead.

If the guest is under the minimum age, age_too_young.jpg is displayed. Input format errors show age_error.jpg.

15. What is the touchscreen keyboard used for?

The optional on-screen keyboard collects information such as an email address or guest name.

It can be configured to appear:

Not at all
At the start of the sequence
At the end of the sequence
Immediately after taking photos
As a free-text message input at the end

Enable it from Photobooth Settings > Start options: Touchscreen > Settings….

The layout, colours and key actions can be customised by creating a keyboard.xml file in the photo booth images folder.

16. What is the live view overlay?

A live view overlay is an optional PNG displayed over the live view feed in full screen photo booth mode.

It is useful for:

Costume-style effects
Custom borders and frames
Alignment guides for passport or ID photos

Use live_view_overlay.png for stills, typically 3:2 aspect ratio, or video_live_view_overlay.png for video mode.

The overlay only affects what guests see on screen. To include it in the printed output, create a copy named image_overlay.png.

Part 3 — Printing, Layouts & Effects

17. How do I set up a custom print layout?

Use the Print Layout Editor to move, resize and rotate photo slots.

You can add:

background.jpg — print background
overlay.png — transparent overlay above photos
Imported logos
Captions
QR codes

Captions can include tokens such as %d, comment, uid and survey tokens.

QR code text can also include tokens, for example https://mygallery.com/view/uid.

Finished layouts can be exported as .pblt files and reused with Export layout… and Import layout….

18. Can guests sign or draw on photos before printing?

Yes. Enable Sign or draw on photos before printing in Output Settings.

This displays the finished print layout full screen with tools for:

Colour palette
Line width
Emoji and stickers
Decorative frames
Undo and redo
Clear
Print
Cancel

Frames are PNG overlays stored in the photo booth images folder and named frame_1.png, frame_2.png, etc.

19. Can Remote Pro be used for automatic printing without the normal countdown sequence?

Yes. This is useful for workflows such as school photography.

Set the number of photos in photo booth mode to 1, design a single-image print layout, enter full screen photo booth mode with Ctrl+F4, and take each photo using the camera’s own shutter release.

The image is automatically downloaded and printed using the current layout.

Enable Confirm before printing to show a Print/Cancel preview after each shot. Press Ctrl+R to reprint the last shot.

20. What Print Layout FX can be applied to an image?

Right-click a photo in the Print Layout Editor and select Edit image position and effects….

Available effects include:

Opacity
Contrast
Saturation
Gaussian blur
Motion blur
Colorize
Mirror
Custom LUT filter
Blend modes such as normal, multiply, screen and overlay
Cropping by percentage

21. Can guests choose a different print background after their photos are taken?

Yes. This is useful with AI Background Removal or Green Screen shooting using a transparent background.

Enable Confirm before printing, edit confirm_printing.jpg to add background-selection graphics, then add touchscreen actions such as:

Confirm printing (next background)
Confirm printing (background 1)
Confirm printing (background 2)
Confirm printing (background 3)

Add background1.jpg, background2.jpg, etc. to the photo booth images folder, with optional matching overlay1.png, overlay2.png, etc.

The print preview updates automatically as guests cycle through backgrounds.

Part 4 — AI & Image Effects

22. How do I apply a colour-grade filter?

Custom colour filters use a colour lookup table (LUT) to remap colours in photos, GIFs and videos.

Filters are created in Photoshop using the Breeze Filter Template. Apply adjustment layers to the sample photo, then export the pattern layer as a 2048×1024px JPEG at 100% quality.

Name the files filter1.jpg, filter2.jpg, etc. and place them in the photo booth images folder.

Set a default filter in Photobooth Settings > Print Photos In, or allow guests to select filters using touchscreen actions.

23. What creative real-time filters are available?

The Other Filters set is installed by copying PhotoboothCreativeFilter.dll, or a renamed copy ending in Filter.dll, into the photo booth images folder.

Available effects include:

Colour negative
Monochrome negative
Posterize
Monochrome posterize
Saturation boost
Saturation reduction
Pop Art
Mirror filters

Press Ctrl+Shift+C in full screen mode to open the filter settings dialog.

24. How does green screen shooting work?

Copy the desired background JPEG into the photo booth images folder as greenscreen_background.jpg.

Connect the camera, enter full screen photo booth mode, then press Ctrl+G to open Green Screen Settings and enable Enable green screen display.

Guests see the composited image live before the photo is taken.

Three keying methods are available:

Hue/Saturation — recommended default
RGB Green screen
RGB Blue screen

Photos can also be saved with a transparent background as PNG files, allowing guests to choose a different background at the print confirmation screen.

25. What is Breeze FX?

Breeze FX is a cloud-based AI image processing service.

It automatically uploads captured booth photos, applies AI-powered effects, and returns the processed image to the booth for printing or sharing.

FX options include:

AI image generation
Face swap
Cartoon effects
AI background removal
AI moderation

Set it up by creating a Breeze Cloud account, creating an FX Configuration, and pointing Remote Pro’s Custom POST Processing setting at the generated FX URL.

26. What is Custom POST Processing?

Custom POST Processing sends each captured photo to a web service or local script before it is added to the print layout.

Breeze FX is one example of a service configured using Custom POST Processing.

Web-based mode posts the photo and session metadata to a URL and expects a JPEG or PNG back within the timeout.

Local command mode runs an executable, Photoshop droplet, AutoHotKey script or batch file, which receives the source image and saves the processed result using the same filename.

If the timeout is reached, Remote Pro falls back to the original unmodified photo.

27. What is the recommended way to remove backgrounds with AI?

The recommended approach is Breeze FX, which provides flexible AI background removal and allows AI credits to be shared across other AI features.

The legacy solution integrates directly with third-party subscription services such as remove.bg or AI Background Remove using File > Run AI Background Removal tool….

Both approaches require an internet connection at the event. Results are composited over the print layout’s background.jpg.

Part 5 — Sharing & Cloud Delivery

28. What sharing options are available?

Remote Pro supports several ways to deliver photos to guests:

Galleries and Microsites
QR Code Sharing
Email
SMS/MMS

Sharing screen images such as share.jpg, email_success.jpg and mms.jpg control the flow. These are not required if sharing is not enabled, and the Setup Wizard creates placeholder versions automatically.

29. How does QR Code Sharing work?

Using Remote Pro with Breeze Cloud, each guest scans a QR code at the start of their session. This creates a unique sharing link tied to that guest.

When the photos are taken, Remote Pro uploads the images to Breeze Cloud and links them to the QR code session.

Guests scan their code again after the session to access their photos via a private link. This allows contactless delivery without requiring contact details to be entered at the booth.

30. How do I set up SMS/MMS sharing?

MMS messages, where the photo is attached directly, can only be sent in the US and Canada using a Twilio account.

In other countries, or when using SMS and SMS + image message types, Remote Pro sends either a text-only message or an SMS with a link to the photo.

Photos sent via MMS or SMS + image must be no larger than 1 MB after resizing or cropping.

From v3.16, texts are sent in the background so guests do not need to wait at the sharing screen.

31. How do I configure email sharing?

The simplest setup is through the Photobooth Setup Wizard.

Email settings can be adjusted in:

Output Settings > Email settings…
Email server settings…

Remote Pro v3.15 and later supports Gmail OAuth. Set the host to Gmail and click GMail authenticate… to authorise with your Google account.

Gmail limits sending to 500 emails per 24-hour period, so a dedicated service such as sendgrid.com is recommended for high-volume events.

32. What is offline mode for email and SMS?

Offline mode stores guest email addresses or phone numbers locally instead of sending messages immediately.

After the event, or once internet access returns, select File > Send emails and MMS/SMS messages….

Use the Sharing Status dialog to scan the base folder and send queued messages.

Part 6 — QR Codes & Contactless Operation

33. What is the Contactless Quickstart process?

Contactless operation allows guests to start sessions without touching the booth.

The process involves:

Selecting a suitable camera or webcam.
Setting up touchscreen actions for photo and video start commands.
Enabling QR code scanning for commands.
Configuring email and email server settings.
Running the booth with guests using contactlessbooth.com.

Guests enter their email address, choose a session type and hold their phone in front of the camera. The booth starts automatically and emails the results.

34. How does QR Code Processing work with third-party QR codes?

QR Code Processing uses regular expressions to parse QR codes regardless of their original format.

It can map extracted data to Breeze tokens or commands, making it useful for ticketing, registration and third-party systems.

Enable Scan QR codes for strings/commands in Photobooth Settings, then configure QR Code Processing entries with:

35. What are Secure Single Use QR Codes?

Secure Single Use QR Codes are signed QR codes that are difficult to forge and can only be used once on a given computer.

They are useful for:

Theme parks and attractions
Single-use photo coupons
Paid photo booth access
QR codes issued after online payment

Codes are generated from File > Single use QR codes.

Custom PNG screens such as qr_used.png, qr_expired.png and qr_not_authorized.png provide feedback when a QR code cannot be used.

Part 7 — Video Booth & Animated GIFs

36. What is required to enable Video Booth mode?

Select File > Video booth settings… and enable Enable video in photo booth mode.

The camera must be set to photo mode, not video or movie mode. Cameras with a movie setting on the exposure dial should be set to P, Tv, Av or M instead.

The camera memory card must have enough free space. A full card can cause the booth to stall during download.

Switch between modes in full screen using:

Ctrl+V — video mode
Ctrl+P — photo mode

37. What is the difference between a Slideshow GIF and a Boomerang GIF?

A Slideshow GIF plays the captured photos in order in a continuous loop.

A Boomerang GIF plays the photos forward and then backward for a ping-pong effect.

Both can be enabled in Photobooth Settings > Output Settings > Animated GIF settings.

They can also be created from Video Booth mode by capturing a video clip as a series of still frames without sound.

38. What video post-processing options are available?

Click Video postprocessing… in Video Booth Settings to configure:

Cropping
Resizing
Mirror
Boomerang playback
Playback speed
Custom edit lists
Speed ramps
Jump cuts
Forward and backward clip segments

Reversed or speed-changed audio sounds unnatural, so selecting boomerang, a custom edit list, multiple loops or non-default playback speed disables audio capture.

Static or animated overlays, intro/outro videos and replacement soundtracks can be added using files such as:

Part 8 — Running & Managing the Booth

39. What are the different ways to trigger the shooting sequence?

The booth can be triggered using:

Mouse
USB input device
External panel buttons
Touchscreen actions

For mouse operation, set the start option to Left click to start. The right mouse button toggles black and white or colour mode.

USB input devices such as a Griffin Powermate or StealthSwitch foot switch can be programmed to send an F4 key press.

Clicker mode allows a photographer or guest to manually trigger each individual shot using a wireless shutter release or presenter sending Ctrl+Z.

40. What is Lockdown Mode?

Lockdown Mode protects photo booth settings with a password, preventing untrained attendants from changing them.

It is enabled from View > Lockdown mode….

If the password is forgotten, exit Remote Pro and delete the following Windows registry value:

41. How does Digital Zoom work?

In full screen photo booth mode, hold Ctrl+Alt and press the left or right cursor keys to adjust digital zoom from 1x to 4x.

Press Ctrl+Home to reset to 1x and reset live view cropping.

Digital zoom reduces image quality, increases green screen processing time and is not available in Video Booth mode.

42. Can I test without a camera connected?

Yes. With no camera connected, Remote Pro can use a simulated camera and live view.

The software uses sample photos from the Samples subfolder of the installation folder, or from a Photobooth Samples folder in Documents.

The simulated live view can be replaced with branded images named:

simulated_evf_landscape.png
simulated_evf_portrait.png

43. How do reprints work?

Press Ctrl+R in full screen mode to reprint the last set of photos.

Use File > Print selected photo booth photos… after the event to reprint from previous sessions.

The Reprint Selection Screen can be opened with Ctrl+Alt+P or a touchscreen action. It displays thumbnails of saved prints and allows selection of photos and copy count.

44. Where are photos, prints and GIFs saved?

Photos and videos are saved to the download folder set in File > Preferences.

Print JPEG copies are saved in a prints subfolder, and animated GIFs are saved in a GIF subfolder.

After each set of shots, Remote Pro writes an XML file alongside the photos. It records details such as date, time, user-entered data, survey data, print count and filenames.

45. What reporting tools are available?

Remote Pro includes two reporting tools under the Reports menu:

Photo booth sharing report — summarises sessions, shares, sent emails and texts, and unsent emails and texts.
Photo booth session stats report — summarises activity across events, including session types, shares, busiest day, busiest hour and busiest device.

Both reports include tab-delimited tables that can be copied to a spreadsheet.
