Photo Booth Settings

Open Photo Booth Settings from File > Photobooth Settings… or click the Advanced Settings shortcut button. If you want to get started quickly, use the Setup Wizard first and return here to fine-tune settings.

Page layout

Select the number of images to take and how they are arranged — for example: 1 image (single portrait), 4 images in a 2×2 grid, or a strip of 4 images in 4 rows and 1 column. Layouts of up to 20 images in a grid are supported. Select Print layout and click Edit Layout… to open the print layout designer.

Live view and inactivity

Live view drains battery and can cause sensor overheating. Most cameras automatically cancel live view after 30 minutes. Remote Pro restarts live view after 25 minutes to prevent this.

• Inactivity timeout — set a number of seconds (e.g. 120) after which the booth displays welcome.jpg and cancels live view.
• Press F6 to toggle between standby and ready modes manually.
• Auto standby — automatically enters standby after each shooting sequence, then resumes when triggered.

Shooting timing

• Delay before first photo — can be longer than subsequent delays to give touchscreen users time to step back.
• Image preview time — seconds to display a preview after each shot. Set to 0 to disable.
• Minimum processing screen duration — keeps the processing.jpg screen visible for a set time even if printing finishes early.

The countdown text accepts these tokens:

• {imageNumber} — shot number in the sequence
• {numberOfImages} — total number of shots
• {secsToNextPhoto} — seconds until the next shot

If you are using animated GIFs or MP4 files for your countdowns, these will override these settings. The countdown will be the duration of the GIF/MP4 itself.

Preview and retake

When previews are enabled, touchscreen actions can be defined to let users retake individual shots:

• Preview: accept — keep the photo and continue
• Preview: retake — discard and reshoot
• Preview: abort — cancel the entire sequence

External flash mode

Enable External flash mode when using studio strobes with a hotshoe-to-PC sync adapter on basic Rebel series cameras. Set the camera exposure mode dial to M. See External Flash for options across camera types.

Live view white balance

When Camera settings mode is set to Simple, enable Live view white balance and choose a preset (e.g. Auto (ambience) or Tungsten) to improve colour in the live view display when flash is used for capture.

Clicker mode

Clicker mode lets a photographer or guest trigger each shot manually rather than using an automatic countdown. A wireless shutter release connected to the camera, or a wireless presenter sending Ctrl+Z to the PC, acts as the trigger.

Sequence in clicker mode:

1. Ready screen displayed; user presses F4 to start.
2. 1.jpg screen shown; software waits for shutter press or Ctrl+Z.
3. After each shot, preview is shown (if enabled), then next screen appears.
4. After last shot, processing.jpg shown and photos printed as normal.
   

Clicker mode is incompatible with a camera-connected remote release when External flash mode is active. Use Ctrl+Z via a PC-connected wireless presenter instead, or use a mid-range camera with External flash mode disabled.

Output settings

Click Settings… next to the output options to configure:

• Output — print only; print + save JPEG copy; save JPEG only; or no output.
• Postprocess photos — send photos to an external web service or script before adding to the print layout. See Custom POST Processing.
• Save copy of processed photos — saves a processed copy alongside the original camera file.
• Background/overlay filename suffix — supports tokens (e.g. {random,1,3}) to select different backgrounds or overlays per session.
• Sign or draw on photos before printing — see Signing or Drawing on the Prints.
• Confirm before printing — displays a print preview with Print/Cancel buttons before sending to printer.

Thumbnails

Select Display thumbnails to show small previews of each captured photo during the shooting sequence. Configure position, size, and spacing using the thumbnail settings dialog.

Exporting settings

Select Tools > Export settings to file… to save all program settings to a Windows .reg file for backup or copying to another PC.

The .reg file contains sensitive information such as email passwords. Keep it secure. It does not include software licensing or screen image files — copy the photo booth images folder separately when moving to a new PC.
