In Operation

Once everything is set up, run Remote Pro for Windows and press Ctrl+F4 to enter full screen mode and display the ready screen. Hide the keyboard to prevent users from exiting photo booth mode.

Starting the Photo Booth

Options for triggering the shooting sequence:

  1. Mouse — set the start option to Left click to start. The right mouse button toggles B&W/colour mode.
  2. USB input device — program a device (e.g. Griffin Powermate, StealthSwitch foot switch) to send an F4 key press.
  3. External panel buttons — see Button Control.
  4. Touchscreen — use one of the left click start options.

If “auto reconnect” is enabled (Camera menu), the camera can be turned off and on between sessions and the booth will resume automatically.

Use Ctrl+1 through Ctrl+9 to set the number of print copies in full screen mode. The number pad + and – keys also adjust the count.

To exit full screen photo booth mode, press Esc or hold Shift and click the left mouse button.

 

Lockdown Mode

Lockdown mode protects the photo booth settings with a password to prevent untrained attendants from changing them. Enable it via View -> Lockdown mode…

To reset a forgotten password, exit Remote Pro and delete the following Windows registry value:

Digital Zoom

In full screen photo booth mode, hold Ctrl+Alt and press cursor left/right to adjust digital zoom (1x to 4x). Reset to 1x with Ctrl+Home (also resets live view cropping).

 

Cropping Photos

Photos and live view can be cropped horizontally (removing equal amounts from left and right) or vertically (letter-box style).

Live view cropping: Hold Shift and use cursor left/right keys. The crop size is shown in the bottom right corner. Reset with Ctrl+Home.

Print layout cropping: In the print layout editor, hold Shift and drag a photo’s corners to adjust its aspect ratio. Right-click a cropped photo and select Make photos same size and angle to apply the same crop to all photos (or select all with Ctrl+P first).

 

Focus

For most cameras, manual focus is preferable to auto focus — if the camera cannot lock focus in AF mode it will not take the photo. Set the lens AF/MF switch to MF and focus using the live view display.

Testing Without a Camera

With no camera connected, the booth can be tested using a simulated camera and live view. The software uses sample photos from the Samples subfolder of the installation folder, or from a Photobooth Samples folder in your Documents folder.

 

The simulated live view shows a green/blue background with a stylised figure. Replace it with your own image by creating simulated_evf_landscape.png (960×640 px) and simulated_evf_portrait.png (640×960 px) in the installation folder.

 

Reprints

Reprint the last set of photos with Ctrl+R in full screen mode, or use File -> Print selected photo booth photos… after an event.

The Reprint Selection Screen (Ctrl+Alt+P or the Display reprint screen touchscreen action) displays thumbnails of saved prints. Users can select photos and copy count using a touchscreen or keyboard. Configure it via Reprint screen settings… in the Photobooth Settings dialog.

 

 

Where Photos Are Saved

Photos are saved to the download folder set in File -> Preferences:

 

  • Photos/videos — saved in the download folder (organised by date by default)
  • Print JPEG copies — saved in a prints subfolder
  • Animated GIFs — saved in a GIF subfolder

 

XML Shooting Information

After each set of shots, Remote Pro writes an XML file alongside the photos containing session details including date, time, user data, survey data, print count, and filenames. The XML filename matches the first shot in the sequence (with .XML extension).

To suppress XML writing, set the following registry value to 1:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BreezeSystems\DSLRRemotePro\100\PhotoboothSuppressXml

 

The print counter is stored in the registry at:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BreezeSystems\DSLRRemotePro\100\PhotoboothPrintCounter

It is decremented by the number of copies each time photos are printed. Access the value with the {localPrintCounter} token.

 

Event Info

Event information can be defined and used in filenames, captions, and sharing messages. Open File -> Event info… to set event name, date, and up to five event strings.

 

Available tokens:

Three print counters are available: a shared Print counter (decremented by any app), a shared Print total (incremented by any app), and a private Remote Pro print counter. Use the Action dropdown to display an error and disable printing when a counter reaches zero.

 

Timed Sessions

In the Event Info dialog, enable Timed session to set a start and end time for the photo booth:

 

  • Before the start time: before_session.jpg screen is displayed
  • During the session: normal ready screen
  • After the end time: after_session.jpg screen is displayed

An optional countdown message can be shown on the before_session screen using tokens such as {startTime}, {endTime}, and {timeToStart}.

 

Sharing Totals

The Event Info dialog shows counts of emails, texts, and tweets sent. These counters can be reset in the dialog and are also stored in the Windows registry for monitoring by other applications.
