Green Screen Shooting

Green screen (chroma key) photography replaces a solid-colour background with a chosen image. Remote Pro also supports blue screen mode — enable it by selecting Blue screen mode in the green screen settings.

The live view display shows guests the composited image in real time, so they see the replaced background before the photo is taken.

Setting up green screen in photo booth mode

  1. Copy the background JPEG to the photo booth images folder and name it greenscreen_background.jpg.
  2. Connect the camera and enter full screen photo booth mode.
  3. Press Ctrl+G to open the green screen settings.
  4. Select Enable green screen display.
  5. Adjust the sliders until the background is fully replaced without affecting the foreground subject.
  6. Press Take Test Photo to check the results.

Adjusting the settings

Three chroma keying methods are available:

Method Best for
Hue/Saturation Green or blue screen under good lighting — recommended default
RGB Green screen Green screen with poor lighting
RGB Blue screen Blue screen with poor lighting

Hue/Saturation starting values: Hue: 120 (240 for blue screen), Hue variation: 5, Saturation threshold: 45.

Increase the Saturation threshold to avoid replacing dark clothing. Reduce Hue variation if parts of the subject are being replaced.

Transparent background option

Select Transparent background (print without overlay or background) to save photos as PNG files with transparent backgrounds. The print layout’s background.jpg provides the visible background. Guests can choose different backgrounds in the print confirmation screen — see Swapping Print Backgrounds.

Outline / sticker effect

When using transparent background, select Add outline/sticker effect to add a coloured border around the subject.

Set the outline size as a percentage of the photo width and choose the outline colour.

Per-shot backgrounds and overlays

Use different backgrounds and overlays for each shot in a sequence by appending the shot number:

  • greenscreen_background_1.jpg, greenscreen_overlay_1.png for shot 1
  • greenscreen_background_2.jpg, greenscreen_overlay_2.png for shot 2

For live view versions (useful when live view is mirrored), append _live_view:

  • greenscreen_background_1_live_view.jpg
  • greenscreen_overlay_1_live_view.png

Video booth mode

Green screening in video mode applies only to the live view display — not to the captured video file. Enable it in the Video Booth Settings dialog, then press Ctrl+G to adjust settings. Name background and overlay files video_greenscreen_background.jpg and video_greenscreen_overlay.png.
