You can Animate Photos by using the Custom Layout feature. This gives you more creative control over animating photos than regular Slideshow GIFs do. You can use keyframes to animate movement of photos, graphics and text, layer elements to create visual interest, and use the Filename Suffix feature to dynamically add elements using Surveys and Data.

In this Guide

Examples

Enable Animated Photos

The Animated Photos feature is a new function of Slideshow GIFs. In the Event Editor, go to the Slideshow Tab and then enable it by selecting the Custom Layout (mp4 Only) option, then press Settings.

Basic Settings

These settings setup the basic output: duration and the overall size (in pixels).

Duration

The duration is the length of the final output in seconds.

Height & Width

The dimensions in pixels of the final frame/video. Individual photos and graphics can be sized differently within the frame itself.

Photo Layer

Next you can add a Photo Layer. Click the Add Photo Layer… button and from the Photo dropdown, select which photo from the session you want to add. You can optionally use the Processed photo by enabling the option (this will use an image that has been returned from POST Processing, or had filters etc) applied. Otherwise the original image is used.

Graphic Layer

You can add a Graphic element by clicking the Add Photo Layer… button and from the Photo dropdown, select the Image option. In the image field beneath that, put the name of the image you want to add eg: unicorn-head.png

Text Layer

You can add a Text later by clicking the Add text layer… button. You can add you text to the Text field (which includes support for tokens). You can adjust the font size, type, color, opacity and justification

Blend Mode

You can optionally select a blending mode. This will change the way the image interacts with the layer underneath it.

Add Animation

Animate the Photo, Graphic or Text layer by clicking the Add animation button.

Start Time

Set the start and end time of the layer to appear (in seconds). For example, Start at the 2nd second of the video and End at the 4th second.

Easing

Easing effects the speed in which a layer animates in or out.

None – the layer just suddenly appears
Ease In – the layer gently moves in and suddenly moves out
Ease Out – the layer suddenly moves in and gently moves out
Ease In/Out – the layer gently moves in and out

Opacity

You can set the opacity of the layer from between 1 = 100% and 0 = 0%. By setting a different Start and End values, the Opacity of the Layer will animate over the Duration.

Setting the Start to 0 and the end to 1 will result in the image fading in over the Duration.
Setting the Start to 1 and the end to 1 means the image will be at 100% opacity for the Duration.

Position

You can move the layer by adjusting its X & Y position. A position of x = 0 and y = 0 will result in the image being centred in the frame. You can animate the layer by setting Start and End values for the X & Y positions. Positions can include negative numbers. Setting X to -500 will move it off the left of the frame.

Zoom

You can set the scale of the layer from between 1 = 100% and 0 = 0%. By setting a different Start and End values, the scale of the Layer will animate over the Duration creating a zoom effect.

Rotation

You can set the angle of the layer from between 0 degrees and 360+ degrees. By setting a different Start and End values, the roation of the Layer will animate over the Duration creating a spinning effect. You can also increase the values beyond 360. If you Set a Start Value of 0 and an End Value of 720, the layer will spin around twice over the duration.

Combining Effects

If you have set multiple options (eg, scale, rotation and movement) these will all animate at the same time. This can allow you to do thing as have a layer spin in to the frame, and zoom out of the frame.

Multiple Layers

You can repeat the process of adding photo, graphic and text layers, to create layered effects or a timeline.

Overlays/Backgrounds

slideshow_video_overlay.mov video with transparency applied over the output
slideshow_video_background.mp4/mov video applied behind the output
slideshow_video_overlay.png graphic applied over the output
slideshow_video_intro.mp4/mov video played before the output
slideshow_video_outro.mp4/mov video played after the output
